So, you've connected with a Professional Organizer. You're ready for change. You've scheduled an initial consultation either over the phone, via video chat, or in your space. What have you signed up for?
I want to share the process I typically follow for an initial consultation to take the mystery and possible anxiety out of this valuable process we call the "Initial Consultation." Other Professional Organizers may do this differently, but this is the Element of Fun Organizing approach.
Most simply, the initial consultation is a mutual interview for us to decide if we are a good fit for each other. I will ask you questions and share my organizing process. You will share your current struggles and goals with me and ask me questions. From there, if I think I can help you reach your goals, I will ask to be your Organizer, and you will decide if you want to hire me.
The initial consultation also allows an opportunity to get to know each other. I want you to see my personality and I want to see yours because a "good fit" as I mentioned before is not only based on needs and services. It's a sort of relationship. Depending on your goals, I might be working with you through some very personal items, information or struggles. And I want you to know you can trust me, I want you to know I want you to succeed, I want you to know there is zero judgement about your current state, and I want you to know that while parts of this process are difficult, I want us to have fun as well.
A large part of the initial consultation will be me listening to you. I'll ask a lot of questions about your household, your current organization struggles, how long you've been struggling, what motivated you to talk to a Pro Organizer, what works/has worked for you in areas where you do feel organized, and your goals, timeline and budget.
I'll also give you an opportunity to ask me questions. While there are a lot of variables to consider when it comes to working with a new client, I will absolutely be transparent about what I believe I can or cannot do to help you reach your organizing goals.
Another part of the consultation will be looking at the space. This can be the most daunting part for new clients, but again, I want you to know that we are on the same team! I've seen it all and intentionally studied the worst case scenarios to educate myself. And while you may see months or years of clutter and failed attempts, I see limitless positive potential and, more simply, a project that just needs to be chipped away at.
We can look at your space in person on-site, through photographs you send me, or through video like FaceTime.

For a small fee, I will happily come to your space, sit down with you to gather information and physically walk through the space with you.
